¹ Now these are the chiefs of families, and the genealogy of them, who came up with me from Babylon in the reign of Artaxerxes the king.

³ Of the sons of Sechenias, the son of Pharos, Zacharias, and with him were numbered a hundred and fifty men.
⁴ Of the sons of Phahath Moab, Eleoenai the son of Zareha, and with him two hundred men.
⁵ Of the sons of Sechenias, the son of Ezechiel, and with him three hundred men.
⁶ Of the sons of Adan, Abed the son of Jonathan, and with him fifty men.

¹² Of the sons of Azgad, Joanan the son of Eccetan, and with him a hundred and ten men.
¹³ Of the sons of Adonicam, who were the last: and these are their names: Eliphelet, and Jehiel, and Samaias, and with them sixty men.
¹⁴ Of the sons of Begui, Uthai and Zachur, and with them seventy men.
¹⁵ And I gathered them together to the river, which runneth down to Ahava, and we stayed there three days: and I sought among the people and among the priests for the sons of Levi, and found none there.
¹⁶ So I sent Eliezer, and Ariel, and Semeias, and Elnathan, and Jarib, and another Elnathan, and Nathan, and Zacharias, and Mosollam, chief men: and Joiarib, and Elnathan, wise men.
¹⁷ And I sent them to Eddo, who is chief in the place of Chasphia, and I put in their mouth the words that they should speak to Eddo, and his brethren the Nathinites in the place of Chasphia, that they should bring us ministers of the house of our God.
¹⁸ And by the good hand of our God upon us, they brought us a most learned man of the sons of Moholi the son of Levi the son of Israel, and Sarabias and his sons, and his brethren eighteen,
¹⁹ And Hasabias, and with him Isaias of the sons of Merari, and his brethren, and his sons twenty.
²⁰ And of the Nathinites, whom David, and the princes gave for the service of the Levites, Nathinites two hundred and twenty: all these were called by their names.
²¹ And I proclaimed there a fast by the river Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before the Lord our God, and might ask of him a right way for us and for our children, and for all our substance.
²² For I was ashamed to ask the king for aid and for horsemen, to defend us from the enemy in the way: because we had said to the king: The hand of our God is upon all them that seek him in goodness: and his power and strength, and wrath upon all them that forsake him.
²³ And we fasted, and besought our God for this: and it fell out prosperously unto us.
²⁴ And I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sarabias, and Hasabias, and with them ten of their brethren,
²⁵ And I weighed unto them the silver and gold, and the vessels consecrated for the house of our God, which the king and his counsellors, and his princes, and all Israel, that were found had offered.
²⁶ And I weighed to their hands six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and a hundred vessels of silver, and a hundred talents of gold,
²⁷ And twenty cups of gold, of a thousand solids, and two vessels of the best shining brass, beautiful as gold.
²⁸ And I said to them: You are the holy ones of the Lord, and the vessels are holy, and the silver and gold, that is freely offered to the Lord the God of our fathers.
²⁹ Watch ye and beep them, till you deliver them by weight before the chief of the priests, and of the Levites, and the heads of the families of Israel in Jerusalem, into the treasure of the house of the Lord.
³⁰ And the priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver and gold, and the vessels, to carry them to Jerusalem to the house of our God.
³¹ Then we set forward from the river Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month to go to Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.
³² And we came to Jerusalem, and we stayed there three days.
³³ And on the fourth day the silver and the gold, and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Urias the priest, and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinees, and with them Jozabad the son of Josue, and Noadaia the son of Benoi, Levites.
³⁴ According to the number and weight of every thing: and all the weight was written at that time.
³⁵ Moreover the children of them that had been carried away that were come out of the captivity, offered holocausts to the God of Israel, twelve calves for all the people of Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy- seven lambs, and twelve he goats for sin: all for a holocaust to the Lord.
³⁶ And they gave the king's edicts to the lords that were from the king's court, and the governors beyond the river, and they furthered the people and the house of God.

¹⁸ And by the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;
¹⁹ And Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty;
²⁰ Also of the Nethinims, whom David and the princes had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinims: all of them were expressed by name.
²¹ Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
²² For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken to the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him.
²³ So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was entreated by us.
²⁴ Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them,
²⁵ And weighed to them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered:
²⁶ I even weighed to their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels a hundred talents, and of gold a hundred talents;
²⁷ Also twenty basins of gold, of a thousand drams; and two vessels of fine copper, precious as gold.
²⁸ And I said to them, Ye are holy to the LORD; the vessels are holy also; and the silver and the gold are a free-will-offering to the LORD God of your fathers.
²⁹ Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh them, before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD.
³⁰ So the priests and the Levites took the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God.
³¹ Then we departed from the river Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.

⁴ Of the sons of Pahath-moab, Eliehoenai, the son of Zerahiah; and with him two hundred males.
⁵ Of the sons of Shecaniah, the son of Jahaziel; and with him three hundred males.
⁶ And of the sons of Adin, Ebed, the son of Jonathan; and with him fifty males.
⁷ And of the sons of Elam, Jeshaiah; the son of Athaliah; and with him seventy males.
⁸ And of the sons of Shephatiah, Zebadiah, the son of Michael; and with him eighty males.
⁹ Of the sons of Joab, Obadiah, the son of Jehiel; and with him two hundred and eighteen males.
¹⁰ And of the sons of Shelomith, the son of Josiphiah; and with him a hundred and sixty males.
¹¹ And of the sons of Bebai, Zechariah, the son of Bebai; and with him twenty-eight males.
¹² And of the sons of Azgad, Johanan, the son of Hakkatan; and with him a hundred and ten males.
¹³ And of the sons of Adonikam, the last, whose names were Eliphelet, Jeuel, and Shemaiah; and with them sixty males.
¹⁴ And of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zabbud; and with them seventy males.
¹⁵ And I made them come together by the river flowing to Ahava; and we were there in tents for three days: and after viewing the people and the priests I saw that no sons of Levi were there.
¹⁶ Then I sent for Eliezer and Ariel and Shemaiah and Elnathan Jarib and Elnathan and Nathan and Zechariah and Meshullam, all responsible men; and for Joiarib and Elnathan, who were wise men.
¹⁷ And I sent them to Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and gave them orders what to say to Iddo and his brothers the Nethinim at the place Casiphia, so that they might come back to us with men to do the work of the house of our God.
¹⁸ And by the help of our God they got for us Ish-sechel, one of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah with his sons and brothers, eighteen;
¹⁹ And Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brothers and their sons, twenty;
²⁰ And of the Nethinim, to whom David and the captains had given the work of helping the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinim, all of them specially named.
²¹ Then I gave orders for a time of going without food, there by the river Ahava, so that we might make ourselves low before our God in prayer, requesting from him a straight way for us and for our little ones and for all our substance.
²² For I would not, for shame, make request to the king for a band of armed men and horsemen to give us help against those who might make attacks on us on the way: for we had said to the king, The hand of our God is on his servants for good, but his power and his wrath are against all those who are turned away from him.
²³ So we went without food, requesting our God for this: and his ear was open to our prayer.
²⁴ So I put on one side twelve of the chiefs of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brothers with them,
²⁵ And gave to them by weight the silver and the gold and the vessels, all the offering for the house of our God which the king and his wise men and his captains and all Israel there present had given:
²⁶ Measuring into their hands six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels, a hundred talents' weight, and a hundred talents of gold,
²⁷ And twenty gold basins, of a thousand darics, and two vessels of the best bright brass, equal in value to gold.
²⁸ And I said to them, You are holy to the Lord and the vessels are holy: and the silver and the gold are an offering freely given to the Lord, the God of your fathers.
²⁹ Take care of them and keep them, till you put them on the scales before the chiefs of the priests and the Levites and the chiefs of the families of Israel, in Jerusalem, in the rooms of the house of the Lord.
³⁰ So the priests and the Levites took the weight of silver and gold and the vessels, to take them to Jerusalem into the house of our God.
³¹ Then we went away from the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem; and the hand of our God was on us, and he gave us salvation from our haters and those who were waiting to make an attack on us by the way.
³² And we came to Jerusalem and were there for three days.
³³ And on the fourth day, the silver and the gold and the vessels were measured out by weight in the house of our God into the hands of Meremoth, the son of Uriah, the priest; and with him was Eleazar, the son of Phinehas; and with them were Jozabad, the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah, the son of Binnui, the Levites;
³⁴ All was handed over by number and by weight: and the weight was put on record at that time.
³⁵ And those who had been prisoners, who had come back from a strange land, made burned offerings to the God of Israel, twelve oxen for all Israel, ninety-six male sheep, seventy-seven lambs, twelve he-goats for a sin-offering: all this was a burned offering to the Lord.
³⁶ And they gave the king's orders to the king's captains and the rulers across the river, and they gave the people and the house of God the help which was needed.
