Job - king james
Chapter 15
1 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
2 Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
4 Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.
5 For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
6 Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.
7 Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
8 Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
9 What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?
10 With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.
11 Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
12 Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
13 That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?
14 What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15 Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
16 How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?
17 I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:
19 Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
20 The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
21 A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
22 He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
23 He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
25 For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
26 He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
27 Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.
28 And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.
29 He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.
30 He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
31 Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.
32 It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
33 He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
34 For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
35 They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.

Chapter 15
1 And Eliphaz the Themanite, answered, and said:
2 Will a wise man answer as if he were speaking in the wind, and fill his stomach with burning heat?
3 Thou reprovest him by words, who is not equal to thee, and thou speakest that which is not good for thee.
4 As much as is in thee, thou hast made void fear, and hast taken away prayers from before God.
5 For thy iniquity hath taught thy mouth, and thou imitatest the tongue of blasphemers.
6 Thy own mouth shall condemn thee, and not I: and thy own lips shall answer thee.
7 Art thou the first man that was born, or wast thou made before the hills ?
8 Hast thou heard God's counsel, and shall his wisdom be inferior to thee?
9 What knowest thou that we are ignorant of? what dost thou understand that we know not?
10 There are with us also aged and ancient men, much elder than thy fathers.
11 Is it a great matter that God should comfort thee? but thy wicked words hinder this.
12 Why doth thy heart elevate thee, and why dost thou stare with thy eyes, as if they were thinking great things ?
13 Why doth thy spirit swell against God, to utter such words out of thy mouth ?
14 What is man that he should be without spot, and he that is born of a woman that he should appear just?
15 Behold among his saints none is unchangeable, and the heavens are not pure in his sight.
16 How much more is man abominable, and unprofitable, who drinketh iniquity like water?
17 I will shew thee, hear me : and I mill tell thee what I have seen.
18 Wise men confess and hide not their fathers.
19 To whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger hath passed among them.
20 The wicked man is proud all his days, and the number of the years of his tyranny is uncertain.
21 The sound of dread is always in his ears: and when there is peace, he always suspecteth treason.
22 He believeth not that he may return from darkness to light, looking round about for the sword on every side.
23 When he moveth himself to seek bread, he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 Tribulation shall terrify him, and distress shall surround him, as a king that is prepared for the battle.
25 For he hath stretched out his hand against God, and hath strengthened himself against the Almighty.
26 He hath run against him with his neck raised up, and is armed with a fat neck.
27 Fatness hath covered his face, and the fat hangeth down on his sides.
28 He hath dwelt in desolate cities, and in desert houses that are reduced into heaps.
29 He shall not be enriched, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he push his root in the earth.
30 He shall not depart out of darkness: the flame shall dry up his branches, and he shall be taken away by the breath of his own month.
31 He shall not believe, being vainly deceived by error, that he may be redeemed with any price.
32 Before his days be full he shall perish: and his hands shall wither away.
33 He shall be blasted as a vine when its grapes are in the first flower, and as an olive tree that casteth its flower.
34 For the congregation of the hypocrite is barren, and fire shall devour their tabernacles, who love to take bribes.
35 He hath conceived sorrow, and hath brought forth iniquity, and his womb prepareth deceits.

Chapter 15
1 Eliphaz the Temanite answered,
2 a wise man answer with vain knowledge, and fill himself with the east wind?
3 he reason with unprofitable talk, or with speeches with which he can do no good?
4 you do away with fear, and hinder devotion before God.
5 your iniquity teaches your mouth, and you choose the language of the crafty.
6 own mouth condemns you, and not I. Yes, your own lips testify against you.
7 you the first man who was born? Or were you brought forth before the hills?
8 you heard the secret counsel of God? Do you limit wisdom to yourself?
9 do you know, that we don't know? What do you understand, which is not in us?
10 us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, much elder than your father.
11 the consolations of God too small for you, even the word that is gentle toward you?
12 does your heart carry you away? Why do your eyes flash,
13 you turn your spirit against God, and let such words go out of your mouth?
14 is man, that he should be clean? What is he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15 he puts no trust in his holy ones. Yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight;
16 much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks iniquity like water!
17 will show you, listen to me; that which I have seen I will declare:
18 wise men have told by their fathers, and have not hidden it;
19 whom alone the land was given, and no stranger passed among them):
20 wicked man writhes in pain all his days, even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor.
21 sound of terrors is in his ears. In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him.
22 doesn't believe that he shall return out of darkness. He is waited for by the sword.
23 wanders abroad for bread, saying, 'Where is it?' He knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 and anguish make him afraid. They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
25 he has stretched out his hand against God, and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty;
26 runs at him with a stiff neck, with the thick shields of his bucklers;
27 he has covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat on his thighs.
28 has lived in desolate cities, in houses which no one inhabited, which were ready to become heaps.
29 shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall their possessions be extended on the earth.

Chapter 15
1 And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind,
3 Reasoning with unprofitable talk, and with speeches which do no good?
4 Yea, thou makest piety of none effect, and restrainest meditation before ùGod.
5 For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou hast chosen the tongue of the crafty.
6 Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; and thy lips testify against thee.
7 Art thou the first man that was born? and wast thou brought forth before the hills?
8 Hast thou listened in the secret council of +God? And hast thou absorbed wisdom for thyself?
9 What knowest thou that we know not? [what] understandest thou which is not in us?
10 Both the greyheaded and the aged are with us, older than thy father.
11 Are the consolations of ùGod too small for thee? and the word gently spoken to thee?

20 All his days the wicked man is tormented, and numbered years are allotted to the violent.
21 The sound of terrors is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer cometh upon him.
22 He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is singled out for the sword.
23 He wandereth abroad for bread, -- where may it be? He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 Distress and anguish make him afraid; they prevail against him, as a king ready for the battle.
25 For he hath stretched out his hand against ùGod, and strengthened himself against the Almighty:
26 He runneth against him, with [outstretched] neck, with the thick bosses of his bucklers;
27 For he hath covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat upon [his] flanks.

31 Let him not trust in vanity: he is deceived, for vanity shall be his recompense;
32 It shall be complete before his day, and his branch shall not be green.
33 He shall shake off his unripe grapes as a vine, and shall cast his flower as an olive.
34 For the family of the ungodly shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.

Chapter 15
1 And Eliphaz the Temanite made answer and said,
2 Will a wise man make answer with knowledge of no value, or will he give birth to the east wind?
3 Will he make arguments with words in which is no profit, and with sayings which have no value?
4 Truly, you make the fear of God without effect, so that the time of quiet worship before God is made less by your outcry.
5 For your mouth is guided by your sin, and you have taken the tongue of the false for yourself.
6 It is by your mouth, even yours, that you are judged to be in the wrong, and not by me; and your lips give witness against you.
7 Were you the first man to come into the world? or did you come into being before the hills?
8 Were you present at the secret meeting of God? and have you taken all wisdom for yourself?
9 What knowledge have you which we have not? is there anything in your mind which is not in ours?
10 With us are men who are grey-haired and full of years, much older than your father.
11 Are the comforts of God not enough for you, and the gentle word which was said to you?
12 Why is your heart uncontrolled, and why are your eyes lifted up;
13 So that you are turning your spirit against God, and letting such words go out of your mouth?
14 What is man, that he may be clean? and how may the son of woman be upright?
15 Truly, he puts no faith in his holy ones, and the heavens are not clean in his eyes;
16 How much less one who is disgusting and unclean, a man who takes in evil like water!
17 Take note and give ear to my words; and I will say what I have seen:
18 (The things which wise men have got from their fathers, and have not kept secret from us;
19 For only to them was the land given, and no strange people were among them:)
20 The evil man is in pain all his days, and the number of the years stored up for the cruel is small.
21 A sound of fear is in his ears; in time of peace destruction will come on him:
22 He has no hope of coming safe out of the dark, and his fate will be the sword;
23 He is wandering about in search of bread, saying, Where is it? and he is certain that the day of trouble is ready for him:
24 He is greatly in fear of the dark day, trouble and pain overcome him:
25 Because his hand is stretched out against God, and his heart is lifted up against the Ruler of all,
26 Running against him like a man of war, covered by his thick breastplate; even like a king ready for the fight,
27 Because his face is covered with fat, and his body has become thick;
28 And he has made his resting-place in the towns which have been pulled down, in houses where no man had a right to be, whose fate was to become masses of broken walls.
29 He does not get wealth for himself, and is unable to keep what he has got; the heads of his grain are not bent down to the earth.
30 He does not come out of the dark; his branches are burned by the flame, and the wind takes away his bud.
31 Let him not put his hope in what is false, falling into error: for he will get deceit as his reward.
32 His branch is cut off before its time, and his leaf is no longer green.
33 He is like a vine whose grapes do not come to full growth, or an olive-tree dropping its flowers.
34 For the band of the evil-doers gives no fruit, and the tents of those who give wrong decisions for reward are burned with fire.
35 Evil has made them with child, and they give birth to trouble; and the fruit of their body is shame for themselves.
