¹ The sons of Juda: Phares, Hesron, and Charmi, and Hur, and Sobal.
² And Raia the son of Sobal beget Jahath, of whom were born Ahumai, and Laad. These are the families of Sarathi.
³ And this is the posterity of Etam: Jezrahel, and Jesema, and Jedebos: and the name of their sister was Asalelphuni.
⁴ And Phanuel the father of Gedor, and Ezar the father of Hosa, these are the sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephratha the father of Bethlehem.
⁵ And Assur the father of Thecua had two wives, Halaa and Naara:
⁶ And Naara bore him Ozam, and Hepher, and Themani, and Ahasthari: these are the sons of Naara.
⁷ And the sons of Halaa, Sereth, Isaar, and Ethnan.

⁴⁰ And they found fat pastures, and very good, and a country spacious, and quiet, and fruitful, in which some of the race of Cham had dwelt before.
⁴¹ And these whose names are written above, came in the days of Ezechias king of Juda: and they beat down their tents, and slew the inhabitants that were found there, and utterly destroyed them unto this day: and they dwelt in their place, because they found there fat pastures.
⁴² Some also of the children of Simeon, five hundred men, went into mount Seir, having for their captains Phaltias and Naaria and Raphaia and Oziel the sons of Jesi:

³⁸ these mentioned by name were princes in their families: and their fathers' houses increased greatly.
³⁹ And they went to the entrance of Gedor, even unto the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.
⁴⁰ And they found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide, and quiet, and peaceable; for they that dwelt there aforetime were of Ham.
⁴¹ And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the Meunim that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their stead; because there was pasture there for their flocks.
⁴² And some of them, even of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men, went to mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.
⁴³ And they smote the remnant of the Amalekites that escaped, and have dwelt there unto this day.

¹ The sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron and Carmi and Hur and Shobal.
² And Reaiah, the son of Shobal, was the father of Jahath; and Jahath was the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites.
³ And these were the sons of Hur, the father of Etam: Jezreel and Ishma and Idbash, and the name of their sister was Hazzelelponi;
⁴ And Penuel, the father of Gedor, and Ezer, the father of Hushah. These are the sons of Hur, the oldest son of Ephrathah, the father of Beth-lehem.
⁵ And Ashhur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
⁶ And Naarah had Ahuzzam by him, and Hepher and Temeni and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah.

³⁴ And Meshobab and Jamlech and Joshah, the son of Amaziah,

³⁸ These, whose names are given, were chiefs in their families, and their families became very great in number.
³⁹ And they went to the opening into Gedor, as far as the east side of the valley, in search of grass-land for their flocks.
⁴⁰ And they came to some good fertile grass-land, in a wide quiet country of peace-loving people; for the people who were living there before were of the offspring of Ham.
⁴¹ And these whose names are given came in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah, and made an attack on the Meunim who were living there, and put an end to them to this day, and took their place, because there was grass there for their flocks.
⁴² And some of them, five hundred of the sons of Simeon, went to the hill-country of Seir, with Pelatiah and Neariah and Rephaiah and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi, at their head.
⁴³ And they put to death the rest of the Amalekites who had got away safely, and made it their living-place to this day.
